IGM found an ancient wreck

Posted by on Aug 21, 2014 in news | Comments Off

relitto10 August 2014:  the Cultural Heritage Department of the Sicily Region ( Superintendent Sebastiano Tusa and Dott. Francesca Olivieri) during an archeo-geophysic survey, found an ancient wreck, already reported in the 1988 by the geologist Leonardo Nocitra from Marsala and then disappeared. The naval wreck is very close to the coastline of the Isola Grande, into the Archipelago of the Stagnone of Marsala (TP). Its size (17 meters length and 4 meters width) indicates a medieval age. We took vegetal and woody sample to make a better evaluation of chronology and provenance.  The survey operation were led by Cultural Heritage Department of the Sicily Region led by Adriana Fresina, in collaboration with Int. Geo. Mod of Perugia, Withaker Foundation of Mozia and Thesaurus Service of Nicosia.

The survey will continue in the next months with dedicated seismoacustic and geophysic analysis.
